Backyard Wedding Goals: Jessa + Daniel

July 22, 2022

Jessa and Daniel are that type of couple you dream about being asked to photograph. They’re easy going, have an infectious joy about them, and are also madly in love with one another. They reached out through my contact page about their Paso Robles wedding, we set up a meeting, and instantly hit it off. They were all for my documentary approach to photography and I just thought they might be the coolest people I’ve ever met. Instead of choosing a wedding venue, Jessa and Daniel elected to get married at Daniel’s family property up in Paso Robles. The backyard was absolutely massive and the perfect size for their 50 person wedding. Daniel’s family said it was almost as if the space was created specifically to host the big day. We kept in touch throughout the planning process until the day finally came! Jessa decided to get ready at The Paso Robles Inn and Daniel got ready on the property. I’m so thrilled with how these turned out. 😍✨

Everybody knows I’m a massive lover of wedding venues.. I have a huge list of venues I love to shoot at, but you don’t have to host your wedding at a wedding venue in order to make it meaningful, stunning, and fun for your guests. It might take more effort and some good old fashioned manual labor to convert a backyard to your needs, but it can be done! The decor, florals, and furniture are the most important. Even further than that, a good photographer doesn’t need a pretty space to make pretty photos. It’s all about how we understand/utilize light and where we place you. That is why when I am asked, I always say if you’re on a pretty tight budget, turn your money and attention to choosing a good photographer and choosing good food; not a wedding venue. Jess and Daniel are the perfect example of this! Love these two and loved this wedding. Very grateful I was there to document it all. ❤️🙏🏼
